Origins and history of Lithotherapy

The word lithotherapy comes from the ancient Greek "Lithos", which means stone, and "Therapeia" that can be translated by care, remedy, or cure.
Lithotherapy literally means "healing with stones". The appearance of the term lithotherapy is very recent since it was used for the first time in 1938, by Philip Shorr, in his book "Review of History of Pharmacy".

However, the use of crystals and minerals by humans for therapeutic purposes is much older: archaeological excavations and the study of the history of mankind teach us that in prehistory, already, then in During all the ages that followed, from antiquity to modern times, men of all civilizations have always attributed magical, spiritual or therapeutic powers to the stones they found.
