Sage & Palo Santo
Sage & Palo Santo: the magical scents of druids and shamans
In the world of indoor fragrances, sage and Palo Santo occupy a special place. Because they do not just deodorize effectively and pleasantly perfume our air soiled by kitchen smells or other unwanted scents.
They are also used for purification rituals or fumigation rituals.
Sage: a sacred plant!
One intriguing thing about sage is that it has fascinated many peoples all around our beautiful planet.
The Romans gave it medicinal virtues and baptized it "Salvia" from the verb "Salvare" which means to heal.
Celtic druids used sage in protective rituals.
The Ancient Greeks and Egyptians used it to relieve the pain associated with women's hormonal disorders.
In the Middle Ages, Charlemagne, fascinated by its benefits, imposed its culture in your empire.
And even today, active ingredients are extracted from different varieties of sage and are used in the composition of beauty products and dietary supplements, among others.
The Palo Santo: the "sacred wood" of the Incas
"Palo Santo" means "holy wood" or "sacred wood" in Spanish.
It comes exclusively from the Bursera Graveolens tree which belongs to the same botanical family as the Myrrh and the Oliban.
The Spanish colonists sometimes called it "Quebracho" (from "quebrar" meaning to break) because it is so hard that it frequently broke the axes of loggers!
Its use in spiritual rites comes to us from the Incas who were already burning it long before Christopher Columbus discovered the new continent. Shamans practiced fumigation rituals similar to those of the peoples of North America with white sage. The smoke of Palo Santo, and its divine scent made it possible to drive out negativity, but also to facilitate communication with the gods.
