The birdhouse: a shelter for birds, a nice decoration for the garden

The birdhouse, also called birdhouses, is a man-made shelter that allows animals to take refuge. It is also a nice outdoor decoration that will bring life to your garden.

This type of shelter allows these small animals to protect themselves from bad weather such as wind and rain but also to protect themselves against predators. Thus, they will be able to reproduce safely.

Nest boxes can also be used as bird feeders . Just drop off food, wait for the birds to arrive and admire this beautiful spectacle of nature.

How to choose a birdhouse?

There are many models of birdhouses, designed in different ways, with various and varied materials. Coco Papaya offers here a range of nest boxes mainly made of bamboo and driftwood.

Bamboo is a rot-proof material. This means that it is insensitive to moisture and never rots. This ensures a very long life of the nest box. In the same way, driftwood is not afraid of bad weather or frost, and is easy to maintain.

Each species of bird has its habitat type because each bird does not have the same needs. Thus, there are several types of nest boxes. The robin will settle in a semi-open nest box while the chickadee will nest in a closed nest box.

Where to place a birdhouse?

Location is everything. The entrance hole should ideally be oriented southeast. Eggs and chicks should be out of reach of predators. The nest box should be placed about 2 meters above the ground for easy access and cleaning. The best is to install it in a quiet place sheltered from the wind and slightly exposed to the sun. Secure it securely to prevent it from falling during prevailing winds.

You can install several nest boxes in your garden but be careful to respect a minimum distance of 30 meters between each shelter. Some birds do not like to nest near others of the same species. Therefore, be sure to install different nest boxes that will attract different species.

If you follow all these tips, then there is no reason why birds should not come to your garden for shelter!
