We love these 3 adorable baby Buddhas in their traditional outfit with golden reflections. They imitate the 3 monkeys of wisdom and pass on to us their philosophy of life, inherited from Japanese antiquity.
Each statuette is hand-painted and the gilding on the kesa (traditional robe of Buddhist monks) of each baby monk is reminiscent of the offerings made to Buddha by devotees who glue gold leaf to temple statues.

The Story of the 3 Monkeys of Wisdom and the Secret of Eternal Happiness
This trilogy is inspired by the famous Wisdom Monkeys, a spiritual symbol of Japanese origin consisting of 3 monkeys, each of which covers a different part of the face (the first the eyes, the second the mouth and the third the ears).
Together, they form a sort of pictorial maxim that can be interpreted as: "Nothing wrong should be seen, heard, or said."
According to legend, to those who follow this maxim nothing but good things will happen. This is why this depiction is often called the secret of eternal happiness.
