Carved from a single piece of solid wood

This amazing wooden statue has been carved entirely by hand from one large piece of wood. It weighs almost 2kg and required several hours of meticulous work. We import it from Asia where it was carved by a very talented craftsman with whom we have been working since 2003.

Traditional beliefs around the Liberating Yogi

The Liberating Yogi is this figure depicted in a cowering posture, similar to that of a fetus, with the knees folded against the chest and the head held in the hands. Depending on the culture and region, he sometimes goes by other names such as the Weeping Yogi, the Liberating Buddha or the Weeping Buddha.

This character is an evocation of detachment from the material world and a representation of personal commitment to spiritual searching. It also represents the idea of returning to a primordial and pure state, such as that of a fetus, before the birth and conditioning of human life.

In the yogic tradition, the posture of the Liberating Yogi allows one to achieve liberation through meditation, in the image of the Buddha's enlightenment.

Tibetan beliefs tell us that the Liberating Yogi has the power to free us from sadness and worry. It would be enough to touch his head and convey our thoughts to him and he would free us from everything that hinders us.

In India, it is said that offering a Liberator Yogi brings healing to the one who receives it.

A beautiful object, carrying a beautiful message

This Liberating Yogi is not only a decorative object, he also carries a precious and life-saving spiritual message.

The first emotions are mainly visual and come when you hold the statue in your hands: you observe it from all angles, admire the work of the craftsman and the natural beauty of the suar wood. Wherever it stands, this statue intrigues and catches the eye with its mysterious shape and organic material.

Then comes the time to question its meaning and the message it contains. The Liberating Yogi helps us to understand essential notions of life and spirituality:

  • The Importance of Meditation : The Yogi teaches us that inner searching and spiritual contemplation are essential to finding emotional well-being.
  • The importance of detachment : By freeing ourselves from superficial and material concerns, we can focus on much more important aspects of our lives.
  • The search for spiritual enlightenment : Through meditation, the yogi seeks to transcend the limits of his physical existence. And he invites us to try to do the same.
  • An image of universal compassion : like Buddha, the yogi seeks inner peace and liberation so that he can then share them with the whole living world. He invites us to feel that same universal compassion for all that surrounds us.

In Indian or Tibetan culture, to offer a Yogi is to convey one's wishes for healing and well-being to a person who is dear to us. Click here to find more lucky gifts from around the world!
