Buddha is depicted here in a seated posture called Atmanjali Mudra (or Anjali Mudra). This is the traditional posture of prayer and meditation, which is characterized by the 2 clasped hands stretched upwards. It is the same posture as the famous Namaste of the Yoga practitioners.
