Beautiful handcrafted wood carving depicting the seated Buddha in meditation

Dimensions: height 40 x width 30 x depth 14cm approximately. Material: suar wood from forests planted by an environmental protection organization, colorless wax finish. Handcrafted creation imported in compliance with fair trade rules. Some differences in appearance are possible compared to the model photographed, testifying to the authenticity of each piece.

This imposing 40cm high statue is an authentic masterpiece of wood carving, as it has been entirely hand-carved by one of our partner craftsmen. A long and meticulous work. Observe the many details and the finesse of the whole. This artisanal origin gives each of our statues a singularity unattainable for industrial resin creations, and this for a very reasonable price.

In addition, by acquiring this statue, you are concretizing your support for the craft industry and helping to perpetuate the ancestral know-how of wood carving.

Buddha is depicted here seated in the Lotus position. His style is inspired by Burmese Buddhas. The right hand rests in the left hand, palm in the air and the 2 thumbs brush against each other: this is the Dhyana mudra, a traditional meditation posture, often practiced by Yoga practitioners.

Suar wood: 2 possible colours

Our statues are hand-carved from a single piece of solid suar wood, without gluing, without the use of machinery. It is pure traditional sculpture, with the same tools and techniques that were already used centuries ago.

While browsing our online store, you may have noticed that some of our sculptures are beige in color, and others, darker, brown in color. In fact, most of our models are available in these two colors. Here are the differences to be aware of:

  • The "clear wax" finish proposed here is the one that best allows the natural appearance of the suar wood to appear. No stain or stain of the wood is used. Only a colorless wax is applied to give the statue a satin appearance. Take a good look at the different photos offered: suar wood is naturally very contrasted and offers shades ranging from blonde to dark beige. There are many natural patterns and color demarcations on the surface of each statue. Our craftsmen know how to perfectly highlight these specificities of suar wood.
  • The "tinted wax" finish is the other color available for our statues. Here, a tinted wax is applied to the sculpture, in order to give it a much darker brown hue. This finish reduces the natural contrasts of the suar wood and therefore gives it a more homogeneous colour. The natural patterns and patterns of the wood are still visible, but less contrasting.

Both finishes have their audience. The tinted wax finish wins a little more votes and is very popular in Asia. In Europe, the "colourless wax" finish is gaining ground!
