Larimar is a rare and sought-after stone that can only be found in Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic). It stands out for its unique blue, very light and veined with white, which evokes tropical lagoons and other paradisiacal islands.
Its scientific name is "blue pectolite" which is only very rarely used. Mineralogy and lithotherapy enthusiasts prefer to call it "Larimar", a contraction of "Larissa", the first name of Miguel Dominguez's daughter, who named the stone in 1974; and "Mar" which means the sea in Spanish.
