According to an ancient Greek legend, Dionysus, the god of wine and drunkenness, fell in love with a young mortal named Amethyst. Wishing to remain chaste and preserve her purity, she implored the goddess Artemis to protect her from the advances of Dionysus.

Artemis, touched by Amethyst's prayer, transformed it into a statue of pure crystal to preserve it from the grip of Dionysus. Overcome with remorse and sadness at the young woman's transformation, Dionysus poured wine on the crystal statue, giving it the characteristic purple color of the stone of the same name.

Since then, amethyst has been considered a symbol of purity, wisdom but also protection against drunkenness and addictive addiction.

The ancient Greeks and Romans believed that wearing an amethyst or drinking from a container adorned with this stone preserved drunkenness and promoted clarity of mind.
