Hiuen Tsang and Magic Agate

Legend has it that one day, long ago, a Buddhist monk named Hiuen Tsang traveled to India to study Buddhist teachings. During his journey, he met a king who gave him a beautiful agate as a gift.

Hiuen Tsang gratefully accepted the agate and carried it with him throughout his journey. But a peun later, while crossing a river, he lost his footing and nearly drowned. The agate in his pocket began to glow and emit a dazzling light, which attracted the attention of a dragon that lived in the river.

The dragon rushed to Hiuen Tsang and saved him from drowning. He explained to her that agate was a sacred stone, which had the power to protect the wearer from danger and disease.

Since then, in the Buddhist tradition, agate has been considered a stone of protection, and it is said to have the power to protect against accidents, diseases, and all forms of negative energies.
