History and Origins of Indian Tchai

The origins of the Indian Tchai (which can also be written as "chai") date back to the 19th century, when Chinese tea merchants began to introduce tea to India. Originally, tea was drunk mostly on its own, "plain". But the Indians gradually added spices, milk, and sugar to create the spicy mixture we know today as "masala chai."

This blend was influenced by Ayurveda, traditional Indian medicine, which uses spices for their health benefits.

Indian chai, has become a very popular drink across the country, with regional variations in recipes, spices used, and preparation. It has become an integral part of Indian culture, often served at all hours of the day in urban tea stalls called "chaïwallahs".

Virtues of Indian Chaï for Health

Spices such as cardamom, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves added to chai, are rich in antioxidants. These compounds can help fight free radicals, boosting the immune system.

Ginger and cinnamon are also known for their ability to promote digestion and relieve gastrointestinal disorders.

The black tea present in Indian chai is one of the most popular "foodstuffs" in the world for its many health benefits. It contains natural caffeine which can boost energy and focus.
