Among the Polynesians, the Tiki is a supernatural being, half-man, half-god who shelters the spirit of the ancestors and watches over the home that shelters it. This beautiful piece, entirely sculpted and hand-painted, will surprise you with the quality of its finishes and its unique style.
The tribal pattern that covers the entire mask has been painted using the traditional technique of "Dot Painting" : thousands of dots of paint of different colors are applied one by one and form beautiful patterns. Take a look at the photos: each mask requires several hours of work, and a lot of precision.

The Legend of Ta'aroa
In Polynesian mythological tales, an ancestral legend tells the story of a powerful tiki, named Ta'aroa, the creator god of life and the universe.
Ta'aroa is said to have created the world out of primordial darkness, shaping the earth and sowing the stars in the sky. But among his creations was a sacred tiki, carved from the wood of the tree of life itself. This tiki, known as Tangaroa, was the guardian of the seas and oceans, watching over fishermen and navigators who depended on his blessings for their safety at sea. According to legend, those who honored Tangaroa with respect were protected from storms and sea hazards, receiving bountiful catches and prosperous voyages in return.
This is how the tiki became a sacred symbol of protection and prosperity for the Polynesian peoples, embodying both the ancestral spirit of Ta'aroa and the benevolent strength of Tangaroa.
