Surfing is one of the favorite sports of Polynesians, which is why our craftsman chose to decorate this wall-mounted surfboard with Maori style motifs.
The sea turtle and the geometric patterns that surround it, as well as the landscape engraved in the centre of the surfboard, are representative of Maori graphic art and echo the intimate connection between these people and their natural environment. As we can see here, Maori graphic art regularly draws its inspiration from nature. But it is also sometimes nourished by other traditions, such as spirituality or the world of the divine.
