How do you use incense balls (or fumigation bombs)?

Incense balls (sometimes called smudge bombs or fumigation bombs) are used like incense cones:

  1. Light a ball of incense with a lighter or match, until it ignites.
  2. Place it on its flat side, on a non-flammable surface such as an incense burner for example.
  3. Blow out the flame carefully to extinguish it. Now the incense ball is no longer on fire, smoke is coming out of it. Fumigation begins.
  4. The incense ball will burn like this, diffusing smoke, for about 8 minutes. Be careful: even when there is no more smoke, the ball can still contain glowing embers for about twenty minutes.
  5. If you want to carry out a traditional fumigation ritual, go through the rooms of your living space with the glowing incense ball and try to disperse the smoke in each room, not forgetting the nooks and crannies.
  6. When fumigation is complete, check that all ashes are extinguished before disposing of them. Open a window to ventilate and ventilate your living space.
  7. After use, the scent of an incense ball remains noticeable for several days after fumigation.

Be sure to light the incense balls in a well-ventilated area and keep a close eye on them. Never leave burning incense balls unattended.
