Lithotherapy: what exactly is it?

The word "lithotherapy" comes from the Greek "lithos" (stone) and "therapeia" (healing) and therefore literally means "healing by stones". It is an alternative, alternative and unconventional medicine aimed at using the energies contained in stones and minerals to improve our daily well-being.

Several thousand years ago, in ancient Egypt, in Indian Ayurvedic texts, or even in the first treatises on traditional Chinese medicine, therapeutic properties were granted to crystals and minerals. The Celts, the Aztecs, the Mayans and many Asian or Amerindian peoples studied the sciences of the mineral domain, always with the aim of improving our existence in their sights.

Some avid lithotherapy practitioners consume stones and minerals in the form of powder or elixir. But at Coco Papaya, it is especially jewelry that fascinates us! We therefore try to offer you the most complete range of lithotherapy jewelry possible to meet your expectations.

Precious stones, semi-precious stones, fine stones... What's the difference?

The distinction between precious, semi-precious and fine stones is not obvious to everyone. Some explanations.

Gemstones

According to the official mineralogical classification, there are 4 gemstones:

  • The diamond
  • Emerald
  • Ruby
  • Sapphire

These 4 stones are therefore the only ones that can be called precious stones.

Semi-precious stones or fine stones

As you can see, semi-precious stones and fine stones are actually the same family of stones. The official mineralogical classification has abandoned the term "semi-precious stones", which it considered misleading, in favour of the term "fine stones" in force today.

The family of fine stones includes all stones and gems usable in jewelry, other than the 4 precious stones.

The terms "semi-precious stones" or "semi-fine" stones should no longer be used by jewellery professionals.

How to choose your lithotherapy jewelry?

All enthusiasts will tell you: choosing a jewel of lithotherapy, it is first of all a choice of the heart! You must feel attracted to the stone and want to wear it. Because this attraction would be the sign of an invisible connection between the mineral and you, and therefore the guarantee of a beneficial interaction.

Even when making this choice of the heart, it is likely that you will still end up with a huge selection of jewelry, since most of us can get in connection with several varieties of stones. It is at this time that you can begin to study the properties specific to each stone. Some have a direct influence on our psyche and can help us overcome our blockages (shyness, lack of self-confidence, excessive emotionality...), others have virtues more related to the worlds of esotericism and superstition (protection against the evil eye, connection with the spiritual world, lucky charm ...).

Then ask yourself this question: "Among these jewels that I all like, which ones will the benefits really be useful to me?". Your selection is thus limited to a few models, the choice is facilitated.
