Origin and meaning of Tiki.

Tiki is called "Ti'i" in Tahitian and means both "man, "god" or "demigod". In Tahiti, it is still considered today that a Tiki placed outside a house brings its protection to the inhabitants.

Legends tell that the Tiki would be the creator of man and that Polynesian sorcerers attributed powers to him. The head of the tiki symbolizes the power it houses. His eyes express knowledge and supernatural power. As for her stretched mouth, sometimes she pulls out her tongue or shows her teeth, in order to mark the challenge and provoke the opponent.
