A 1-meter-tall protective Tiki Totem

  • Material: albizia wood from forests planted and managed by an environmental protection organization, satin varnish finish.
  • Outdoor use possible: the application of a water repellent and the installation of a ground anchor are recommended (not included).
  • Handcrafted production imported in compliance with fair trade rules. Slight differences in color or appearance are possible from the model photographed, testifying to the authenticity of each piece.

Learn about Hawaiian cosmology

Hawaiian cosmology is a deeply spiritual view of the world, where deities and the forces of nature are closely linked and interdependent.

At the heart of this cosmology are the four main gods, Kane, Lono, Ku and Kanaloa, who embody creation, earth, war and the ocean, respectively. These gods are often represented by tikis, symbolic sculptures that serve to embody them, worship them, and invoke their help and protection.

For example, tikis depicting Kane are used to promote agricultural fertility, plant growth, and anything related to life in general. Ku tikis are used to invoke strength, courage, and divine protection.

Each tiki, with its distinctive traits and specific symbols, expresses a unique facet of Hawaiian cosmology and is revered as part of rituals and ceremonies that honor deities and forces of nature.

Hawaiians perceive the world to be populated by many other supernatural spirits and entities, called 'aumakua, who can take on various appearances and play different roles in the lives of individuals and communities.

We can therefore see that Hawaiian cosmology is very rich. But also that it is still deeply rooted in respect for the land, the ocean, and all forms of life, reflecting the harmonious and respectful relationship of Hawaiians with the natural environment around them.
