Tribal Statuette of a Couple in Petrified Wood: An Allegory of the Couple

  • Total dimensions: height 28cm x width 10cm x depth 6cm approx. Weight: 0.35kg approximately. The two statuettes are sold together and are fixed on a common base.
  • Material: Petrified mango wood, and painted metal base.
  • Artisanal creation imported in compliance with fair trade rules. Minor imperfections or differences in appearance are possible compared to the model photographed, testifying to the authenticity of each piece.

These two slender figures made of petrified wood come from the island of Timor, in Indonesia. They embody the ancestral tribal art of this island, with their minimalist, almost primitive aesthetic, where every detail expresses a symbolic vision of the world.

The wood, aged by time and the know-how of the craftsman, seems almost fossilized, which further reinforces the authenticity of the object. The inlaid eyes, round and expressive, create a silent but intense presence. The frontal posture, with the arms at the sides of the body and the geometric shape of the head, are typical of the Primitive Arts.

In traditional Timorese culture, these statuettes represent protective ancestors or guardian spirits who are supposed to watch over the home and family. They are placed in front of homes or near domestic altars to protect the home, bless the harvest or accompany daily rituals .

The unity of the pair proposed here symbolizes the harmony of the couple. Totally naked, the man and the woman are presented without any subterfuge, in absolute simplicity and equality, to emphasize their equal importance within the couple and by correlation, the family, the village, and the Timorese people as a whole.

For the perfect setting and the assurance of capturing admiring glances, place them on a clearly visible wall shelf or in a lighted alcove. Use soft directional lighting to emphasize the texture of the wood and create expressive shadows.

More than decorative objects, these statuettes embody an ancient memory and an exceptional craftsmanship that has survived the ages. They give a breath of authenticity, spirituality and depth, while bringing a singular artistic character.

Discover the timeless beauty of the Primitive Arts with this magnificent Timorese petrified wood statuette, available in a limited edition. A rare piece, endowed with a special aura, a raw and timeless aesthetic.

An object that can be kept and passed on

How many people buy "trendy" decorative objects each year, only to resell them a few months later for a fraction of their initial price in a second-hand flea market or platform? This rapid consumption cycle, dictated by fashion, is expensive in the long term... and leaves no memory behind.

Conversely, investing in an authentic tribal statuette like this one, handcrafted according to ancestral know-how, is choosing timelessness.

These works never go out of style: they cross eras, interiors, generations. Their raw aesthetics, their natural patina, and the symbolic and spiritual charge they convey make them unalterable, both artistically and emotionally.

Yes, their purchase price is higher than a standard decorative item. But unlike compulsive purchases at low prices, these are pieces that you keep for life, then pass on to your descendants. And that's precisely what makes it an excellent investment: in the long run, you spend less... for an infinitely more precious good!

Buying a handcrafted piece means buying meaning, durability, and beauty that stands the test of time.
