Statue of a seated villager: a tribal work symbolic of Timor's handicrafts and cultural heritage

    • Dimensions: height 42cm x width 10.5cm x depth 12cm approx. Weight: 1.3kg approximately.
    • Material: Petrified mango wood.
    • Artisanal creation imported in compliance with fair trade rules. Minor imperfections or differences in appearance are possible compared to the model photographed, testifying to the authenticity of each piece.

This rare and expressive tribal sculpture comes to us from Timor, an Indonesian island renowned for the symbolic power and authenticity of its craftsmanship.

Representing a seated figure, it has been shaped by hand using an ancestral technique of petrification that gives the wood this inimitable mineral and antique look. This long process of aging the wood, combining burning and prolonged burial underground, requires patience, know-how... and humility in the face of time.

The deliberately uncluttered style, with marked and geometric lines, is reminiscent of the protective figures and totems of the Primitive Arts. The Timorese tribes consider them to be effigies of ancestors, to whom they worship in order to invoke their protection.

The character, rigid and frontal, exudes a silent aura. It appears to be frozen in a posture of vigil or meditation and perfectly symbolizes the peaceful strength of the Timorese villagers.

Placed on the edge of a piece of furniture or a shelf, the statue seems to inhabit the space: its dangling legs create a subtle and contemporary visual effect, between museum staging and ritual art.

Available in a very limited edition, this highly symbolic work is aimed at aesthetes and collectors in search of strong objects, bearers of history and memory.

Investing in the authentic, resisting the ephemeral

At a time when "trendy" decoration is consumed and thrown away like a cheap garment, choosing a work such as this statue of Timor is to affirm a real aesthetic and ethical bias.

Yes, the price is higher than a standardised object manufactured on an assembly line. But what you buy here is not just a statue : it is a fragment of history, a tradition passed down from generation to generation, and craftsmanship of a rare requirement. It is also an authentic work of art, full of meaning, with a magnetic presence, which follows no trend and never goes out of style.

Such objects, shaped with respect for nature and cultures, are distinguished by their raw elegance, their artistic value, and their timeless character. They age with us, cross the ages, and are passed on to our descendants, as we would with a family jewel or a precious artifact.

Unlike ephemeral decoration, they do not lose their value: on the contrary, they gain it!

That's why, from our point of view, investing in such a room is not a luxury, but a wise choice: for your home, for the planet, and for the communities that keep these traditions alive.
