Carved from a single piece of solid wood

This astonishing statue has been entirely hand-carved from a single piece of suar wood, a noble Asian wood. It weighs close to 1kg and requires increasingly rare craftsmanship. We import it from Bali, Indonesia, where it was carved by a highly talented craftsman with whom we've been working since 2003 in a spirit of mutual respect.

Traditional beliefs about the Yogi Liberator

The Liberator Yogi is a figure depicted in a curled-up, fetus-like posture, with knees bent to the chest and head held in the hands. Depending on the culture and region, he is sometimes known by other names, such as the Weeping Yogi, the Liberator Buddha or the Weeping Buddha.

This figure is an evocation of detachment from the material world and a representation of personal commitment to the spiritual quest. He also represents the idea of returning to a primordial, pure state, like that of a fetus, before the birth and conditioning of human life take their toll.

In the yogic tradition, the posture of the Liberator Yogi enables us to attain liberation through meditation, in the image of the Buddha's enlightenment.

According to Tibetan belief, the Yogi Liberator has the power to free us from sadness and worries. All we have to do is touch his head and convey our thoughts to him, and he will free us from all that hinders us.

In India, it is said that offering a Yogi Liberator brings healing to the recipient.

When you're feeling anxious, you can use your Yogi Liberator as a stress ball to calm you down.
