Monoï: a Polynesian treasure with multiple virtues

Monoï is an emblematic product of Polynesia, deeply rooted in the culture and traditions of the Pacific islands. It is a fragrant oil obtained by macerating tiare flowers (Gardenia tahitensis) in refined coconut oil.

This ancestral process, handed down from generation to generation, gives rise to an oil with exceptional properties, used for centuries by Polynesians for its cosmetic and therapeutic benefits.

Origin and creation

Monoï, whose name means "fragrant oil" in Tahitian, was created by the Polynesian peoples many centuries ago. Polynesian women used to pick the flowers of the tiare tree, a symbol of beauty and purity, and macerate them in coconut oil. This preparation was used to protect and beautify the skin, but also for its soothing and relaxing virtues.

Uses and benefits

Monoï is mainly used for its moisturizing, nourishing and protective properties. Rich in essential fatty acids and vitamins, it quickly penetrates the skin, leaving it soft and silky. It is also renowned for its soothing and repairing properties, helping to relieve skin irritation and prevent dryness. In Polynesia, monoi is often applied to the skin and hair before exposure to the sun, as it acts as a natural filter against UV rays.

Scent and fragrance

The scent of monoï is unique and enchanting. It combines the floral, sweet notes of tiare flower with the creamy softness of coconut oil. This exotic fragrance evokes sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters and the warmth of the tropical sun. It is often described as an invitation to travel and escape, transporting those who breathe it into a world of relaxation and well-being.

Monoï today

Today, monoï is recognized and appreciated the world over for its many virtues. It is used in a wide range of cosmetic products, from massage oils and moisturizers to perfumes and candles.

Monoi-scented candles, like this one from Mistral des Sens, capture the essence of this Polynesian treasure, offering a unique and intoxicating olfactory experience.

To enjoy your "Mistral des Sens" candles for as long as possible, here are some recommendations…

  1. Always ensure that the wick remains straight and does not exceed 8mm. If it is too long, it may create unnecessary soot emissions and bend to one side, causing uneven melting of the candle. This would reduce burning time, and if the wick tilts to one side, it could heat the glass and break it. Ideally, trim and center the wick before each use if needed.
  2. During the first few uses of your "Mistral des Sens" candle, it is best to blow it out. Once the wick gets shorter, use the lid to smother the flame and prevent smoke from spreading.
  3. When only a few millimeters of solid wax remain at the bottom of the container, it is unfortunately time to part with your candle. If the part under the wick holder becomes liquid, the wick may detach and fall against the glass wall. This could heat the glass and potentially break it. If the wick is short because you followed the first recommendation, you can let it burn a little longer, but always under adult supervision.
  4. Once the candle is finished, pour some boiling water inside the container and clean it before recycling. Any remaining wax residues and the wick holder are not recyclable.

Scented candles handcrafted in the heart of Provence

Mistral des Sens is a small team of enthusiasts and you can feel it in their products!

In their manufacturing workshop, located in the Alpes de Haute-Provence, they use their artisanal know-how to create natural scented candles, but also room sprays and rattan rod diffusers that will dress your home with their delicious scents.

All Mistral des Sens candles are made with French soy wax and cotton wicks also from France. The perfumes come from Grasse, the world capital of perfumery. This exemplary composition guarantees you "Premium" quality candles that last a long time. Goodbye paraffin and other petrochemicals that pollute the air: your space is pleasantly scented and your health is respected.

In partnership with a renowned master perfumer, the Mistral des Sens team was first inspired by its environment to offer you the olfactory creations that make it a success: you will find the lavender of the Valensole plateaus, the calissons of Aix, the magnificent Mediterranean creeks or the countless Provençal orchards.

Then, little by little, the creations multiplied to offer you an astonishing overview of everything that can be done in terms of perfumery. Something to conquer all hearts (and noses...), from the most refined to the most gourmet!

At Coco Papaya, the discovery of Mistral des Sens products was love at first sight! We sincerely hope that the same will be true for you.
